CSS Alabama sextant model
Product details: CSS Alabama sextant model | | Instrument models | Home / hobby | Material: Brass
Very small sextant (compare with the real size Throughton and Simms sextant in the last picture) labeled 'CSS Alabama Society'. The sextant seems to be a replica but is crafted so much like a real sextant that it is hard to tell the difference at first. The reason I think it is a replica is the scale which is rather crude as well as that measuring 0 degrees is almost impossible. Also the way the index arm is constructed (and clamped) does not seem very sturdy.
Apart from that the sextant is a perfect miniature / model of a true sextant including the three screws for the index mirror of which the middle is used to correct for index error (that actually works); the scale made of two metals (but it does not seem to be silver but rather lead or similar); the mount of the horizon mirror (which can be rotated / corrected for index error) and down to the ivorine / ivory handle.
