This model of an Atocha astrolabe was created as a souvenir model. It must have been sold in many places but this one is stamped with 'Fortaleza de Sagres' wich makes it a little bit special. It was at Sagres that Henry the Navigator built a centre of navigation / observatory to further the navigational science of the days. It was here that the mariners astrolabe was improved to the design used in the Atocha astrolabe.
