A Radio Direction Finder (RDF) is used for getting a bearing on a radio station. On 'large' sets this is done using a rotating antenna which can indicate the direction of the radio station relative to the vessel heading. This unit was designed for use on yachts and as such has the antenne build into the unit. By rotating the unit in the direction of the radio transmitter the strongest signal can be found using the headphones (no speaker). The magnetic compass is then used to get a (magnetic) bearing of the radio station. This allows a line of direction to be plotted. This unit works in the Low Frequency range and there are not many stations transmitting in that band. I could however get the BBc and got a fair bearing of that.
