N&B Aneroid survey barometer
N&B Ltd Aneroid surveying barometer as used by the UKHO
Surveying barometer / altimeter used by the UK Hydrographic Office (HO99). The case does not match the instrument (case is HO102). This barometer is somewhat larger (but still portable) when compared to my pocket altimeters. It is also much smaller than the (much later) American Paulin altimeter. The advantage of the larger instrument is a finer scale; the addition of a vernier and microscope to allow for more accurate reading.
The brand N&B Ltd no longer exists and information is hard to find. The only matching company was liquidated in 2001 and was in photography. If this is the same company is doubtfull although it could have been an optician that switched to photographic equipment and from there to photography.
