George Bass and Matthew Flinders were shipmates on HMS Reliance. After arriving in Australia they went on exploring the Australian coast. The sextant (and its telescope shown) are probably not period correct as explored around 1795. This sextant is more likely to be end of the 19th century considering its design. The sextant is placed on a period correct map of the part of the Australian coast they explored.
