This is a 5$ stamp created specifically for collectors. The actual stamp is normal size but it has a 'border' around it which is decorative and in this case shows the routes of great explorers. The stamp itself show a wooden octant. As three of the four great explorers were land based and the fourth was a Danish-Russian, Vitus Bering, around the time the Octant was invented, it is not probable that they ever used an octant like the one depicted. Maybe Bering used the larger, Hadley, type on his last exploration but even that is doubtfull considering the very few years between its invention and Berings exploration.
