I obtained this tripod specifically to allow the Keuffel and Esser transit in my collection to be mounted. Later I also obtained a 5/8" to 3.5"x8 adapter to make this possible but this authentic (though slightly younger) tripod originally did go with the transit. The tripod differs not only in its head with its European counterpart; also the connection of the legs to the tripod are of a different style as are the feet.
