Wild Heerbrugg distance staff
Wild 1.5 m distance staff.
Obtained from Germany.
This distance staff was used together with a theodolite such as the T1. Using the cross hairs the distance between the crosshairs can be measured. Using the subtended angle withing the telescope the distance towards the staff can now be found (usually cm x 100). With the DM1 distance meter attached to the telescope cm accuracy was possible (as stated in the manual), but without the DM1 only about a decimeter is achievable and probably a little bit less.
This was however a simpler solution than the RDS or RDH where a special instrument was required (but then also reducing the distance to a horizontal distance rather than the slant range as with this solution). The tripod set-up is very much alike that of the RDH staff although the staff is ofcourse different. The set I have is missing one of the distance staffs but is otherwise complete. It is very heavy in its wooden box, requiring two persons to move it around. The staff itself is very lightweight.
So far I haven't figured out what the short aluminum pole (one taped in red and white) is for. The only thing I can think of is that it was used over a peg of sorts with the staff positioned on top of it. Any help is welcome.
