ESP Mk3 Rangefinder
ESP Mk3 rangefinder together with corresponding with Linhof mounting bracket.
Originally purchased by Rijkswaterstaat (Meetkundige Dienst) and numbered as LARA 7 (Laser Rangefinder nr 7). The bracket is marked LARA4 and marked 'RWS Texel' in pencil identifying it as used in the Northern part of the Netherlands. Donated in 2018 by the Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz as it was no longer functioning.

These instruments were used on the Rijkswaterstaat surveying vessels to measure the distance from the vessel to the shore. In 1997 these instruments were still in use along the rivers as a means of positioning the vessel at an exact distance from the shore rather than the more in accurate DGPS systems then around. Used these myself on the Speurder in those days.
