This is one of the very few non-green Wild Heerbrugg instruments in my collection. This one would probably have been green as well if it wouldn't have been part of another instrument. In this case that is the Amsberg AM.T profiler 2000. This instrument is an early laser scanner in its most primitive but effective form. It is based around the Wild Heerbrugg DIOR3001 / DIOR3002 which is capable of measuring up to 350 m without a reflector prism. The AM.T profiler uses the distance measurement of the DIOR3002 which is mounted on a motorized axis. By turning the axis through a set angle a complete profile of distance measurements is created. The instrument was designed for measuring railways but also found use in profiling roads and caves.

This profiler used to belong to the Dutch Rijkswaterstaat, Meetkundige Dienst. It was probably used for measuring roads or perhaps railways. It was definitely not used by the marine geodetic department (GAM) as a former employee cannot remember ever having seen this type of instrument in that department. As the road survey department was located in another building it could have belonged to them. This was their first profiler as it is labeled 'Prof 1".

The instrument still seems operational. Whether it is a DIOR 3001 or DIOR 3002 is a bit of a mystery... The back panel has a sticker saying DIOR3002 whereas the bottom has a label (with serial) stating it is a DIOR 3001 with technical specifications equal to the DIOR3002. The DIOR300x still works and can be operated from its own keypad. The telescope is not from Wild but still functional. When powering up the entire instrument it seems to start a self calibration as well. However, as the controller is missing it is impossible to see if it still works completely. I'm still hoping someone will have the instruction set required. Looking at the connector it seems a standard RS232, DB25 connector so it could probably still be operated using a normal PC. Would be nice to compare it to a modern laser scanner.
