Heath Hezzanith rapid reader
Heath Hezzanith rapid reader sextant.
Product details: Heath Hezzanith rapid reader | Heath and Co | Quintant | Navigation | Material: Brass
This is a nice example of the sextant development between the classic 'vernier' and the more modern 'drum' sextant. It uses a wormgear and a rack underneath the scale to make find adjustments. The worm can be disengaged by pushing together the ends of the index arm. It is however still read using the classic vernier and micrsocope construction. The scale is silver on brass and has unfortunately been heavily polished with most of the numbers hardly readable anymore. The sextant came with both a telescope as well as a sighting tube. The rising piece cannot be adjusted in height.
