Kent HO75 tide gauge
Product details: Kent HO75 tide gauge | Kent | Tide gauges | | Material: Aluminium
I bought this kind of by accident. A HO marked survey sextant came up in the same auction and as I quite cerainly knew I would win that and had to pay for shipping anyway I also put out a bid on this. I was the only bidder and got it. However, when the shipping quote came in for the lots I swallowed hard. In the pictures the size of this is hard to estimate, although seeing it together with the manual gives you an idea. It is a really heavy instrument and as it came with two (very heavy) transducers ánd the original plastic tubing it took three boxes to get it to my house from the UK.
I am however still pleased to have it as it is a nice contrast with my other portable tide gagues. Because this was meant as a portable, pressure, tide gauge. This one is set up for 6 m waterdepth and conveys the pressure from a balloon style transducer via a plastic tube to the recorder. The recorder is clockwork driven and writes the tides on a circular chart this is rotated. The instrument is dated somewhere between 1979 (when Kent became part of BBC) and 1991 when this was used the last time according to the chart that was still on the device when I obtained it.
