Thales Navigation DG14
Thales Navigation DG14 DGPS receiver.
Product details: Thales Navigation DG14 | Sercel (Spectra Precision) | GNSS Receivers | Survey |
This receiver used to be part of a Veripos DGPS set used by Skilltrade to position their final field project. It got replaced by a new integrated unit from Veripos at some point in time. The original differential receivers went back to Veripos but the GPS receivers were by then obsolete and not required. One still serves as a back-up at Skilltrade, the other is now in my collection. In the pictures you can see various Skilltrade Cat-B students at work with this unit in Rotterdam at the STC.
This unit is of the black box type, meaning one needs software to connect and program the unit. This is relatively straight forward once it runs. What makes it special is that it also has a 1PPS puls which turns it into a very precise timing device. The pulses come once per second with a regularity of microseconds. Together with the timepulse there is a timestamp allowing accurate timing of connected devices; a very usefull feature in hydrographic surveying.
I also have a DG16 which is almost similar but has 16 channels rather than 14. The Ashtech DG16 in my collection was a donation by CT Systems.
