Wild Heerbrugg GAK1
Gyrocompass for mounting on a theodolite.
Product details: Wild Heerbrugg GAK1 | Wild Heerbrugg | Gyrocompass | Survey |
The GAK1 gyrocompass is not a 'true' gyrocompass in that it gives a true course. It is rather for finding geodetic north (the spin axis of the earth) by using a gyroscope. The instrument is pointed to north as much as possible (with the help of for example the tubular compass). After starting the gyroscope and bringing it up to speed the gyroscope is allowed to spin freely. It will start to oscillate around true north which can be determined using the scale on the instrument. The GAK1 is the instrument only and does not have the control unit as my GAK11 does have.
