This GAK11 is essentially a further development on the GAK1 also in my collection. See the GAK1 for a general description of the instrument and its use. The GAK11 was 'bundled' with the T16 including the mounting for the T16. It also came complete with the control box wich includes most of the tools as well. There seem to be one or two tools missing. When it arrived I actually tested it and the unit electronically works. However, no indication was given. After ordering the manual from the Virtual Archive I opened it up and found that the suspension 'wire' (a very thin, flat metal strip of a special alloy) was broken. Not surprising and neither was the fact that the tube that should contain spares was empty. This was the achilles heel of the instrument; a shock while in operation would do this (wasn't me...). Anyway, I traded my 'spare' T2000s-MOT (see other entry) with the Leica museum for two spare wires. Now I need to find the courage to mount them to actually photograph it in operation. I have two shots at it.
