The objective prism is essentially a pentaprism and is used for looking perpendicular to the line of sight of the NT1, T21 or T16 theodolite (or level as this also fits the N(K)2 and NA1). The prism itself can rotate so it is not usefull for measuring straight up / down as the ZNL / ZBL instruments. It does Once in place it can be used for measuring down straight down wells, something that no theodolite can do as the instrument would be in the way. In this way it can bring horizontal angles to a different height level.
According to the box this instrument used to belong to Bonjour civil engineers from Lenexa, Kansas. They seem to have gone out of business or at least are not listed on the internet.
