This is a relatively large fluxgate compass. It was used in surveying as a substitute for the (more accurate) gyro compass. Its advantage is that it does not contain any moving parts and can be easily calibrated for a specific vessel. This one comes from the inventory of Skilltrade but is no longer used; it is replaced by a Vector GPS gyro.
