C.Plath Yachtsman
Small(er) sextant designed for use on yachts
Product details: C.Plath Yachtsman | C. Plath | Octant | Navigation | Material: Aluminium
This was an attempt by C.Plath to create a smaller (and cheaper) sextant for yachts. It is actually an octant and they never seem to have sold well as only about a few thousand were made. The sextant looks a bit unwieldy with its triangular shape. The advantage of the closed frame is that the index bar actually slides within the frame. The handle is a standard C.Plath handle but the sextant is still easier to lift from the box as it is stored 'upside down'. For servicing a screwdriver is supplied as standard. Filters are kept to a minimum and the telescope is permanently fixed to the frame. The instrument can be read to whole minutes though.
