Brass survey quintant
Small bras unmarked survey quintant c1850 - 1900
Product details: Brass survey quintant | | Quintant | Survey | Material: Brass
Finely made sounding or survey sextant. It is not marked in any way which makes it very hard to tell how old it is. It was advertized as C.Plath based on the box it came in. The box however definitely belongs to another instrument as it has all the markings and internal numbers of a Rijkswaterstaat C.Plath sextant such as I have in my collection. So that is what it definitely isn't. The way this instrument is made including patter, colour and scale places it (probably) somewhere in the second half of the 19th century. All the parts show great workmanship. The instrument does not have a telescope but is fitted with a pinhole sight. It is also expressley made for taking horizontal angles as there is only one, upright handle on it.
