Troughton and Simms box sextant
Throughton Simms box sextant with tangent screw
This box sextant deviates from many others in that it has a tangent screw rather than the regular screw adjustment. The advantage is that on this sextant it is easy to change between angles. Rather than having to screw the mirror to the correct angle, this one allows quick setting and then fine adjustment with the tangent screw like a regular sextant.
However, this sextant has more design features that deviate from its contemporaries. For example, the peep hole has an internal sight tube to avoid side reflections. Finally, the single filter is moved out of the way directly using a lever with the filter mounted on top on the inside without using any knobs or other levers.
