Hezzanith Transparant Station Pointer
Hezzanith Transparant Station pointer.
Obtained from the Netherlands
This station pointer is the less expensive type. On the surface similar to the Sestrel transparant station pointer in my collection it shows more sophistication. The plastic seems to have withstood time better but most important this one has a 'pricker' to accurately insert a position in the chart; much like the full metal instruments. All are in very good condition and seem to have been hardly used.
This is no surprise as the instrument case is signed 'H. Schogt off. Stoomvaart-mij "Nederland"'. Or in other words, this instrument used to belong to officer Schogt of the SMN. Now SMN became part of the Rotterdamse Lloyd in 1970, dating this instrument before that date. It is probably somewhere from the sixties. With the advent of radar and electronic positioning, especially for the larger passenger vessels this instrument seems redundant. Also, being a personal instrument it must have been taken good care of. The box shows some scuffs and scratches but is also in good used condition.
