This is the successor to the very popular N(K)2 (old style). It functions the same but looks more modern. It is however not of the same construction and personally I like the old style better. The N(K)2 was made in such a way that it can be reversed which allows the readings to be compensated by taking to readings on the same staff, one with the telescope in normal position and one with it reversed. Any angle in the instrument is thus cancelled out. This instrument was not often produced as it came out around the same time as the NA(K)2, which was much easier to use. As a result the new style N(K)2 is relatively rare.
When I bought the NK2 the level itself was actually broken. However as it was only the glass that had separated from the (aluminium) base, I fixed it by a) filling the level with light gasoline and b) glueing the glass to the base using a 2 component metal bond. So far (2 months into the future) the glue seems to hold. The N2 also did not come without issues; in this case the horizontal rotation was not very smooth. After taking it apart and cleaning it, it is better not perfect. I suspect at some point in time it has fallen.
