DSNP 6502MK Scorpio
DSNP 6502MK Real Time Kinematic back-pack landsurvey unit.
Obtained from the Netherlands
The DSNP 6502MK (Scorpio) was one of the last backpack GPS units. Soon after GPS units would become 'all on the pole' type. With the backpack type units the receiver and batteries would be stored in a backpack as would often be the UHF receiver. The antenna (for this unit, usually a NAP2) would then be mounted on the stick together with the controller. With this unit came an original Husky controller which would have been running Carlson Survey software as was usuall with all DSNP / Magellan / Ashtech units of that time.
The backpack not only has the DSNP logo but is specifically made for landsurvey operations with a specific pouch for the receiver but, more important, pockets for the cables on the straps allowing the cables to be run over the shoulder to the antenna and controller. The receiver is operated from two large batteries that cannot be swapped 'hot'. There is furthermore a slot for a storage card altough the original card is missing.
Due to the GPS millenium (week roll-over) all former Thales / DSNP / Magellan Professional stopped working overnight rendering them useless. As a result this unit was donated as part of a large donation by CT-Systems where it had been part of the rental pool.
