The diagonal eyepieces as a set are for later models and put on both the telescope as well as the microscope. They allow using the theodolite when taking steep sights such as in astronomy (for example when taking a sun azimuth with a Roelofs prism. The eyepiece for the telescope has a bayonet fitting, the one for the microscope has a clamp on connection. One needs to take care that the original lenses do not go missing as these have to be left of the instrument while the diagonal eyepiece is installed.
I also have a single microscope bayonet eyepiece that only fits the older models T1 as well as a modern, bayonet style eyepiece for the newer T2 and T16. This one actually inverts the image which is also very helpful while using a N3. Actually on most modern instruments it is a bit a nuisance as it inverts the erect image, but on the N3 which is actually inverted it helps bring the image 'around'.
