Wild Heerbrugg T21
Third generation and probably most sold model of the famous T2 theodolite.
Product details: Wild Heerbrugg T21 | Wild Heerbrugg | Optical theodolite | Survey | Material: Steel
The T2 is one of the most sold geodetic theodolites in general and this model in particular. It differs from the second generation T2, the NT2 in that the tribach can be removed making it possible to interchange the theodolite with the targets for reverse measurements. This instrument is in good shape and was last repaired or adjusted by Brandis and Sons in 1981 according to a label on the inside. The instrument was orginally sold by Brandis and Sons from Pleasantville. Brandis and Sons was established in 1872. It seems to have gone out of business as I can no longer find any information on the internet other than a company adress that seems occupied by another company now. There is a label from them on the container as well but I suspect this was put on when it was adjusted as the label states 'over 100 years of service' which would date the label to after 1972 whilst the last production date for this range of serials was 1969 according to the Virtual Arhive.
I found a calibration paper in one of my battery boxes later on. It does not belong to this instrument but shows nicely what the form looked like. The wooden transport case is not originally from this instrument but obtained separately.
