I had been looking for a while for an artificial horizon. They are relatively rare but this one is a nice example. Made of black glass it is in full operational condition. A large (and relatively) accurate level accompanies it. The level is encased in a brass cylinder with wax in the ends for protection. The horizon is set on three adjustable legs. It cannot be exactly dated but a slip of paper in the box shows the accuracy of the level and on the back side shows 'january 1899' which could indicate the date. It would fit with the period.
