Davis MkII sextant
Simple sextant produced after WWIII
Product details: Davis MkII sextant | Davis Instruments | Octant | Home / hobby | Material: Plastic
This is probably the first plastic sextant after WWII. It is the forebear of the MkIII which is still made / sold. This one is special in multiple ways. First of all it is a rare sextant. But more importantly this one was sold in the UK by the East Berks Boat Company or Ebbco. Ebbco started to manufacture there own plastic sextant nog long after the introduction of this sextant but were resellers of Davis before that. For a long time Davis and Ebbco were strong competitors with similar instruments on the market. The manual that comes with it is not the same as that of the MkIII but is more similar to that of the later Ebbco sextants.
This specific one is from 1965 / 1966 as shown in a letter accompanying the instrument. It is probably one of the first in Britain where it was also assembled. The box that came with it is not original. The instrument does not seem to have seen much use as the hex wrench for adjusting the mirrors is still taped to the bottom of the handle.
