Haff 10 cm grid mold
Haff 10cm grid mold
Obtained from the Netherlands
Whether it is the correct English translation or not (Dutch: Ruitenmal), it is quite literally what it does. This instrument was used to create a 10x10 cm square grid on a piece of paper. It is essentially a big plate of metal (aluminium? or invar?) 1x1 m big with holes punched exactly every 10 cm in a grid. Using the pricker a small hole can be punched in the paper lying underneath. The metal plate can be put on plastic discs and one metal stud to align it with the paper.
This one was used by Delft Hydraulics in their hydrographic department. It comes from the collection of Lo Nienhuis who actually used the instrument to prepare his field sheets.
