Brass vernier sextant with a galilean telescope. The scale is inscribed in silver with the sextant marked 'J. Coombes Optician and Admiralty Agent, Devonport. It is a three circle pattern. The telescope shown on the sextant is not the original telescope but rather one that I acquired separately at a later date and is not a perfect fit.

What is however more interesting is that the first owners name is inscribed as 'P.B. Crohan R.N.'. Based on the internet I have found that he was a Lt. Commander in 1917 and a retired as a sea transport captain in 1939. A sextant like this could have been presented upon him becoming an officer some years after entering the navy. His daughter Bridget married viscount Lymington in 1936. He is still shown on the Navy list for 1942.
