Cary half-size
Cary half size sextant
Obtained from the UK
This is a small, about half size sextant made by Cary. When it came up for auction no makers name was given. However it looked so much like the Cary survey sextant already in my collection that I took the risk. And indeed, it was a Cary. It has the same frame but is otherwise different. The telescope and mount are different; it ofcourse has filters but it also has a reading microscope rather than a loupe. Most obvious is the handle though; where the survey sextant has a large round angle this one comes with a small wooden handle. What makes the handle special is that it can be put 'upright' making the sextant also usable for horizontal angles.
