de Koningh small survey sextant
G de Koningh small survey sextant.
This (part of) a survey sextant is special in that it is the oldest de Koningh sextant in my collection but also because it is a 2/3 size sextant build along a different pattern from the other sextants. It has a single circle frame and has a different telescope mounting (telescope is missing) from the other de Koningh sextants. The instrument is marked '17' and 'G de Koningh Amsterdam Arnhem'. The serial places it before 1929, probably somewhere in the early 1920's. An instrument with serial 3936 from 1935 is in my collection, one with serial 3371 from 1929 is in another collection. A similar instrument is in the collection of the 'Hogeschool Utrecht' (with the missing scope) labeled as serial 862 from 1910. Based on that and assuming a constant output, this instrument would have been produced around 1922 - 1923. The instrument is centesimal (gon) making it also the earliest centesimal sextant in my collection.
