A very slightweight education sextant. It has a single filter for the peephole (red glass) as well as an index adjustment with the old octant style controls making this a sextant build along the lines of the old fashioned octants. Having said that, of all the training sextants in my collection this is the only one giving decent results thanks to the easily read scale and adjustments. The only awkward thing is the wooden handle. At first I thought this was put on later, but as I have two almost similar instruments and both have the same type of handle, it must have been original. The handle is useless as it is positioned the wrong way around meaning that holding the instrument feels strange compared to a regular sextant.
