Freiberger yacht sextant
Freiberger 3/4 yacht sextan
Product details: Freiberger yacht sextant | VEB Freiberger | Sextant | Navigation | Material: Aluminium
This was the smaller (and therefore) cheaper drum sextant produced by VEB Freiberger. The intended use is never in doubt as it is named the yacht sextant. In other words, they were not meant for 'real' ships. Their smaller size would allow for easier storage. They are however not that much smaller than the real sextant and as a result produce similar results. The instrument is a bit simpler in build and therefore probably also a little bit cheaper to make. The main difference is however in the telescope which is nowhere as powerfull or bright as those on the regular drum sextant by Freiberger. It is also constructed in such a way that the telescope cannot be replaced by a regular one (a cost saving feature for sure).
