This type of stadimeter was first developed by Lt. Bradley Allen Fiske for the US Navy. In my collection there are multiple variations of this instruments including one of the original patent from WWI. This instrument was produced for the US Maritime Commission in 1942 and is similar to instruments produced around that time by Schick and Keuffel and Esser.
