Keuffel and Esser stadimeter
Keuffel and Esser stadimeter of the 'Fiske' type. Similar to the Schick and Ajax models and probably produced in WWII.

Produced as part of the war effort by Keuffel and Esser for the US Navy Bureau of Ships. Similar to those produced for the US Maritime Commission for commercial / convoy ships. Based on the attached label this instrument has done service on the USS Gold Star from which it was probably taken when she was decommissioned in 1946.
The instrument has some damage to it from a drop at one time. The box it is shown in does not originally belong to it (it belonged to serial number 32394. Close to the serial of the instrument (and thus probably the correct box) this box was a separate purchase as an empty box.
