Lenoir type brass level
Lenoir type brass reversible level.
Product details: Lenoir type brass level | | Tilting levels | Survey | Material: Brass
This is a heavy brass lenoir type level. It is unsigned and undated but believed to be late 19th century. This type of level is fully reversible making it one hand more accurate but on the other it has some potential design issues that make it less accurate. The telescope can be easily reversed by removing it and replacing it up side down. The level can be reversed as well. However, the telescope rides on a large disc of brass using two square mounts. If the round table or the squares are not exactly level the two readings will not necessarily cancel out. The same is true for the level on top. The level has a three legged tribach making it a European, possibly French or Belgian, design. It came with a period correct wooden chest.
