Wild Heerbrugg M39
A special theodolite labeled 'Vagbasistheodolit' produced for the Swedish army.
Product details: Wild Heerbrugg M39 | Wild Heerbrugg | Simple theodolite | |
This instrument which seems to incorporate elements from the T210 / archetype T2 as well as the T3 was specifically designed for the Swedish army. It was part of a larger set-up but I only have the theodolite (which does include all accesoires with the matching serials). The theodolite is set-up for autocollimation and only has a horizontal scale (as in the T210). The extremely long telescope contains multiple filters as well as the autocollimation lamp. The horizontal scale is read from the side of the instrument rather than along the telescope (which would be impossible, considering the long telescope). The theodolite does not have a tribach but seems to have been connected directly to the associated counter.
From the Swedish 'Digitalt museum' I have obtained additional information on this instrument (and translated it into English using Google Translate - errors are either mine or Googles). "The M39 was used in the mobile coastal artillery from 1943 untill the early 1960s. Each set-up consisted of three theodolites and counters. The theodolites were set up in such a way that the distance (baseline) between them was around 500 meters. Presumably after launch the associated turntable and counters were started which were stopped as soon as the power was cut short allowing the angle to the target to be read accurately. The theodolites were trained at the target allowing the position of the target to be computed."
